The 1972 Iran Blizzard is the most deadly blizzard in world history. Occurring from February 3-9, 1972, this blizzard dropped 10 feet of snow over the country of Iran. This blizzard left many effects behind. This storm killed 4,000 Iranians and destroyed 200 villages in the country. After the storm, it took a while for the snow to melt, but once it did, the whole country began rebuilding. As for preventative measures, there was not much that could be done, but modern technology and weather prediction will help Iran prepare for a storm of this caliber, if that were to happen. This blizzard came at an unusual time for Iran. For the 4 years prior to the blizzard, Iran had experienced a devastating drought. Nonetheless, the 1972 Iran Blizzard will go down in history as an unforgettable severe weather event.
