There is two story lines to this film, one of the stories follows the Anti-Hero, Leonard through his struggle and battle to find the murderer of his wife.
While the other story line moves back in time, revealing and more of what happened.
Like hours, the first few minutes of the film doesn't reveal much of the plot. Although it reveals the fact the Leonard has short term memory lost, it doesn't reveal much about how or who he is getting revenge on.
Deconstustion of the OTS itself. It begins with a black screen and emotion building slow, string music, listing important cast members and production companies. It then cuts to a polaroid photograph being held by a man with a tattoo on his hand. He is shaking the picture to develop it enough. Until it over develops and becomes white. It then cuts to the face of the man holding the photograph as he brings the camera to his eye, takes a picture and when he puts it down, his face is revealed to the audience. His face is covered in blood and sweat.
Christopher Nolan's film, Momento- released in 2000, tells the complex story of well known actor Guy Pearce playing Leonard, a revenge driven man who suffers from short term memory lose. Every day of his life, he dedicates to finding the man that killed his wife. To try and deal with his short term memory he makes organised notes around his apartment and tattoos the most important ones on his body.
Following that shot it jump cuts to a canted angle of blood on the floor, running along the floor with pace. This angle creates distortion and a sense of dystopia. Action matches are then used with the following shots, a bullet, glasses covered in blood, and a dead body. To follow this a very good special effect is used, reversing the clip. Although it thus reveals what physically happened there it still keeps the audience in confusion as to why it happened. So from this it looks like he is a murdered. However the final scene in what I'd consider the 'OTS' explains more about it but not in great detail still. It is very secretive still, 'you're in some motel room, feels like maybe the first time you've been there, perhaps you've been there for a week? a month? Its hard to tell'
There are similarities between the main character in this film and the character me and Courtney have created for our OTS. They don't mean any harm and are nice people, however both struggle with difficulties through life but also both are driven through guilt and their daily life. In addition both Leonard and the character in our OTS struggle with confusion and memory lose. Although Leonard's is diagnosed, the Anti-Hero in our OTS is suggested to be mentally unstable, as he isn't sure as to whether he is the murder or not.
