Stepping our way through Music and Math

Other ways math and music compare

Math and music do not only correlate with certain equations, but they also are used together for memory.

It is known that music is a good way to remember certain things in math.

Interesting Facts

- Musical individuals are also mathematically inclined

- Musical rhythm is based upon mathematical relations

- Musicians do not usually show the same interest for mathematics as mathematicians do for music.

-certain pieces of music end up being more popular and mainstream due to their ‘mathematical’ structure

Researched Facts

- Research has proved that children playing the piano often show improved reasoning skills like those applied in solving jigsaw puzzles, playing chess or conducting mathematical procedures.

- It is reasonable to assume that an understanding of music requires some understanding of ratios and repeating patterns.

Fibonnaci and his sequence

The Fibonacci series appears in the foundation of aspects of art, beauty and life. It has a big impact in music as well.

The Fibonacci numbers (which are 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21...) have been used in the creation of music.

These numbers create a perfect harmony when you play them. It is beautiful and dynamic and it is used incorporated in many songs.

The relationship between math and music

So, what is music?

What is Math?

It is an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.

It is the systematic treatment of magnitude, relationships between figures and forms, and relations between quantities expressed symbolically.

Okay,...but what is math?

The study of the measurement, properties, and relationships of quantities and sets, using numbers and symbols.
