Hello!Today you will learn about the Greek Olympics via this prezi.You will learn about its history, who could play in the games, and the Olympics today. Some basic information is that the olympics is a contest with many different games and many athletes representing their certain country compete

The modern olympics today are very different than the ancient games. Today, some of the games are archery, canoe sprint, badminton, basketball, diving, football, hockey, and others. The amount of countries that participant are about 120. The olympics today allow men and women to compete in the games. The women do most of the games the men do as well. Some male and female athletes are Usian Bolt, Nadia Comaneci, Chris Hoy, Carl Lewis, Michael Phelps, and Valentina Vezzali. These athletes come from various places like Italy, the United States, France, Jamaica, Russia, China and more

Not everyone from Greece could compete in the Olympic Games. All male Greek citizens were entitled to but not women. Men were excepted no matter of their social status was. An example of Olympic participants are Alexander I and Democritus. Women were not allowed to participate and even the women that were married were forbidden to watch the games.Only unmarried women were allowed to watch the games.

The first Greek Olympics has been dated to have happened around 776 BC.These games were invented to honor the Olympian gods, Zeus, Hera, Posiedon, Hades, Hestia, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Ares, and Hermes. These games were first located in Olympia, Greece were they continued for nearly 12 centuries.During the first Olympic Games, the only event held was a approximately 630-foot or 192-meter race. This was the start of the first Olymiad, the four year period by which the Greeks recorded their history.The first site of these games, Olympia, is located 10 miles inland from the Ionian Sea.Other than the games, Olympia was the former site of the massive statue of Zeus, the god of the sky and the Olympian gods. This site was ranked as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
