First Modern War?

GREAT IMPACT

I believe that the technology that was developed before and during the war had a huge effect on the war and how it was fought. For example new weapons such as minie guns and guns on revolving turrets made killing your opponent much easier. Minie guns had aerodynamic bullets that were much more efficient for killing and the gun turrets and warships made of metal made your chance of survival much greater since the safety of ships has also gone up.

Telegraph

The telegraph was a machine that used more code to send messages hundreds of miles away in just seconds. It was this technology that allowed the North to stay ahead of the South so much because they could communicate new information and gain orders much faster. Abraham Lincoln sent thousands of messages to his men throughout the war. This was one of the technologies that helped to win the war.

Submarines/Warships

Warships-

-they were called ironclad

-had either a flat surface with only a revolving turret on the top, or had sides covered in metal amour

Submarines-

-they failed many times drowning crews who went aboard

-had explosive tips that when attached to another boat from under the water, would blow up even ironclads

Civil War

I think that the Civil War was America's first war with technology that determined how countries all over the world fight. But, I wouldn't say that it was the first modern war because as time goes on, all technology that is new just makes each war more modern than the last. The Civil War used many new weapons and tech that influence battles even today.

It depends on how you think about it!
