Over 150 students and chaperones spent three days at Western Oregon University under the expert guidance of a team from Gear Up for Excellence and Seeds Training. Middle and high school students separated into two groups, covering similar topics including understanding learning styles, practicing goal setting, building trust and expressing gratitude. They practiced leadership skills, communication tools and developing proactive learning habits.
8 students from Elkton joined 8 students from North Douglas and Yoncalla for a 3 day engineering camp. Activities included building and racing solor powered cars, and learning about the engineering programs at OSU.
Our GEAR UP program is funded by a grant from the Ford Family Foundation. This grant will last 6 years. We are currently in our 3rd year.

22 middle and high school's across the state participate. Schools vary in size, but all serve low income students in rural communities.
