Stereotypes about Lithuania

Fifth Stereotype

First Stereotype

Lithuania is a nation of people who work dirty jobs and speak terrible English. This stereotype formed mostly because of Lithuanian emigrants in the UK and some other Western European countries. It's a wrong stereotype. The vast majority of students in Lithuania finish the middle school or gymnasiums and then go to universities or colleges, therefore, the amount of educated people in Lithuania is really high. Some of them can speak English pretty fluently.

Lithuania, like most of the others small Eastern European nations, is sometimes incorrectly considered as a part of Russia, the biggest country in Eastern Europe.

Fourth Stereotype

Conclusion

Lithuania is a poor Eastern European country. Another false stereotype. Lithuania isn't a rich country, but it has one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. Plus, there are some countries in Europe that are a lot more poorer than Lithuania.

Most of the stereotypes about Lithuania and it's people are negative and wrong. However, in some separate cases they can be true, but in the general - they're not.

Second Stereotype

A lot of foreigners frequently get confused between Lithuanian and Polish languages, they think that it's the same language. But it's not, Lithuanian is a unique language that doesn't have many similarities with the Polish one. In fact, Polish language is more similar to Russian, because they both have many similar words. Russian and Polish languages belong to the Slavic language family, Lithuanian belongs to Baltic.

Third Stereotype

Lithuania is a country of basketball. This isn't a unquestionable stereotype. Lithuanians really love basketball, but in the past couple of years swimming, tennis and some other olympic sports started to gain popularity among Lithuanians.
