In the year 1994, Luigi died in late December aged 85. His son's were so close to selling the family business but held back. In the year 2000, the two sons divided the company to pursue their own goals. Bruno and Rino currently own the business Grocon.
Famine is when you suffer severe shortage of food through crop failure. This then results in violent hunger, starvation and death.
Due to the extreme famine that Luigi and his family were suffering, Luigi was forced to migrate to Australia. When Luigi left Italy he was only 19 years old. He came to Australia on a ship called The Lloyd Sabaudo Principe Di Udine. Luigi arrived in Port Melbourne on the 24th of July 1928.
In 1984, Luigi set up his own concrete business, called Grocon. It started off with just Luigi completing minor tasks such as paving foot paths. Luigi began to worry about his business. But his worries disappeared as the business expanded rapidly. Luigi's sons, Rino and Grollo joined the family business, skyrocketing it off even further towards success.
Luigi Grollo was born in the north of Italy in 1909. He lived on a farm with his family. The Grollo family were very poor at the time and they had to harvest crops for food and money.
The Grollo family were faced with climatic catastrophes that wiped out everything they had several times, leaving Luigi and his family in famine.
Grocon moved onto concrete construction such as shopping centers, high-rise buildings and their own projects. In this decade, Luigi handed over Grocon to his two sons for further improvement. In 1975, Grocon received a large contract for rebuilding after Cyclone Tracy in Darwin.
In the 1980's many developments were sold by the Grollo family.
At this stage, the Grollo family only had one major development left, the Rialto Towers.
