How does the amendment protect citizen rights?

  • The 19th amendment protects rights because it provides men and women with equal voting right.

Who supported the amendment? Why did they support it?

  • Various women’s suffrage groups supported the 19th amendment because it was a movement for the female right to vote.

Who did not the amendment support it? Why were they against it?

  • Various southern states opposed the amendment. The church and the press were also harsh critics as well.

  • The 19th amendment was proposed in 1878

  • The ratification was certified on August 26, 1920

  • Far back into the era of Reconstruction, women pushed the rights for all voting right and as time went on the movement grew bigger and gained more and more support.

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislatures.
