Dilution is just an illusion!

Dilution is actually an illusion. People might not think its pollution, because your throwing waste in the water and it might look less, when its not because the waste spreads everywhere in the water. People also think diluting the waste will just make it weaker and disappear, but really its not, its polluting the water and making it dirty. Dilution is really just an illusion that makes the sewage and waste in the water look like its less pollution, but its not because they spread.

Introduction

First off lets talk about dilution, what is dilution? Dilution is when you add water or another solvent to it, to make the object or liquid weaker and thinner. When we humans dump sewage and waste into our lakes and oceans, the waste and sewage gets diluted. You won't be able to see the waste on water, only when you add a lot of waste and sewage. The waste is usually in the water, which is where the pipes from the sewage are that send sewage to the lakes and ocean.

Is it really diluting?

It will take millions of years for the waste that is thrown in to dilute, so is throwing waste really diluting? We are also throwing this everyday and not stopping so its basically a never ending process.

Dilution is not the solution to pollution

Pollution is when contaminants can cause harmful changes to the natural environment. Pollution isn't just waste on the ground, it can take many forms such as chemical, air, noise, light, and water pollution. Diluting waste, while there is a large amount of population means a lot of waste will be thrown in the lakes, and oceans from the sewage. The population is high, so there will be more sewage coming from people and that will directly go in the lakes, and oceans. There will be a large amount of the sewage spread everywhere in the water, and this is harmful to the environment. We should be lucky we have the most fresh water here in Canada, we should take care of them not just throw waste in there. We should take care of our water and be thankful. The waste is also extremely harmful to the environment, when we throw waste in our lakes it kills many aquatic animals, which also ruins our fishery too.

I think dilution is not the solution to pollution, I think it is not right to throw waste and sewage into water. Diluting sewage is only okay when the population of the land is not big because, if the people throw their community's waste into the water, it won't be a lot, its going to get diluted soon and get eaten by insects in the sea. When there is a lot of water sewage getting diluted this mean's the population is high, and no insects from the sea can eat this because its so much. It causes many problems and its basically pollution because pollution is when something harmful and poisonous affects the environment. Dilution affects the environment, meaning it's pollution when we throw waste in our lakes. This means dilution is not the solution to pollution. Reasons I think diluting sewage with our lakes harms the environment are because diluting kills aquatic animals (destroys the aquatic life).

Ways to prevent diluting waste into the water

• Always look for the correct bin when throwing out waste for example rubbish
• Reduce the amount of water you use, this can reduce the amount of dirty water that needs treatment.
• Do not throw chemicals, oils, paints, and medicines down the sink or toilet
• Buy more environmentally-safe cleaning liquids at your homes and other public places.
• Help organizations and groups to educate people on the dangers of water pollution

Diluting water affects Aquatic life

Many animals die during dilution and their habitats get destroyed from the water pollution. So many chemicals and waste are released to the lakes and oceans. We need to take care of the environment and remember that these animals have lives too. There are many micro-organisms and many harmful contaminates that releases into the lakes and oceans, when sea animals eat these harmful chemicals and micro organisms, they can die. Many of the waste we throw, the birds that live in the beaches eats the waste, and that destroys their bodies. Many of the fish die because of waste and many habitats gets destroyed. This also hurts the fishery business, because of the number of deaths fish are dying, and they won't be able to get as much fish as before.
