About Suzanne Weyn:

She grew up in Long Island, New York, born on July 7th, 1955. She is the oldest of four. Suzanne is a graduate at Nassau Community College and SUNY Binghamton. She holds a Masters in Teaching Adolescents from Pace University.

Kayla's dad committed suicide on her birthday. Her mom said it had something to do with the bar code, but she wouldn't tell her what.

Kayla starts hanging out with some kids from the Decode group. She thinks there's something wrong with the tattoo and doesn't want to get one. Her friend thought the group was weird though.

Getting a bar code tattoo becomes a law once you turn 18 years old. Kayla and her Decode friends still don't want to get one. Also, cloning was then allowed in the U.S.

Kayla's best friend, Amber, and her family had to move in with her cousin because their bar codes were messed up and they wouldn't even work for her parents. Amber had a tattoo too, but it actually sometimes worked. Her parents got fired from their work and had to start selling everything.

Kayla's mom kept trying to get her bar code tattoo off. She would try to rub it off and take it off with a knife. She still thinks it somehow killed her husband.

Kayla saw her mom on the computer one day, so she went to see what it was. It was her dads profile with the bar code and everything. It had his genes in there, so Kayla and her friends figured out that, that's how some people are going up in the economic and others going down.

After one of the Decode meetings, Kayla figured out that Zekeal, the boy she liked, was actually a Tattoo Generation agent. He was lying to all of them, and just wanted to get Kayla to be part of it with him.

Kayla's mom ended up dying in a fire, and Kayla had to go to the hospital for it. She escaped because they were going to give her a tattoo and she still didn't want one. She went towards the highway and tried to catch a ride.

Kayla meets two elderly people and becomes friends with them. They didn't have a tattoo either, so they were on the run. Both of them ended up getting killed in a car crash trying to get up to Canada to their daughter, where there was no law of this. Kayla runs away into the woods and gets away though.

In the woods, Kayla finds this restaurant and finds her old friend from the Decode group, Mfumbe. He tells her that they were in this sorta place where no one cared if they had a tattoo or not. He had a cabin where they both stayed for a while. The Global-1 officers came and they were everywhere. They found a truck and hopped a ride on it.

Kayla made it to the mountain and found Eutonah, the women who kept calling for her. She learned that people are evolving and adapting into more advanced creatures. The were starting to be able to talk to each other through their minds and heal people without medical tools.

My favorite character was Kayla because she had a lot of courage. She was pretty much alone, and she kept going and resisting the tattoo. Her parents died and someone that she thought she loved lied to her. She was strong through all this and didn't even stop going against the tattoo after it became a law.

My favorite part of this book, was when Kayla and Mfumbe were alone on the truck and started talking more. They started to fall in love with each other and he told her how he really felt. He said that he loved her ever since they first met, but she was too interested in Zekeal. They kissed and then she told him that she loved him too. I thought it was really romantic and cute.

The genre of this book is scientific fiction. scientific fiction is a type of fiction dealing with the impact of imagined innovations in science or technology. It is usually set in the future. I think this because it has advanced technology like the bar code tattoo and eye scanners. They also have this one highway that you can go as fast as light and you can be anywhere like super fast. There were robots that can do things like work the cash register at restaurants. People and animals can be cloned and they were trying to be able to give people new genes that will make them more powerful. People were starting to be able to talk to each other just through their minds.
