What is the Venus Fly Trap?

The Venus Flytrap is a plant that traps and kills insects. It lives in the southern part of the USA.

1. An insect goes between the Venus Flytrap's two lob traps

2. The two lobs close and trap the bug.

3. They keep closing until the bug is squished.

What are its adaptations?

  • The inside looks like pollen so that it can lure bugs into it.
  • Trapping mechanism
  • Flytrap teeth
  • Trigger hairs
  • A Venus flytrap can go without eating for 1 or 2 months.
  • When it catches a bug, it remains closed for 1 or 2 weeks.
  • It can only close 3 or 4 times, then it can't close any more.
