Getting Started with Drafting

Basic Drafting Tools

1. Pencil

Due Today - complete both tasks below.

  • Create a drafting template with border and title block.

2. Eraser & eraser shield

3. T-Square - when the T is fixed securely to the side of a table, it provides a base for drawing perfectly horizontal lines.

4. Triangles - 45º-45º-90º and 30º-60º-90º

5. Tape - secures the paper to the table

Basic Laptop Rules:

1. No music. And no headphones - except when watching assigned videos.

2. Only use the laptop assigned to you.

3. Carry the laptop by the base (not the screen).

4. On task - doing so is worth 10% of your overall grade on the assignment.

Drafting - the Setup Process

1. Collect the following supplies - paper, pencil, eraser, t-square, triangles, and tape.

2. Tear off four 1" pieces of tape - lightly place on side of table.

3. Place paper down and secure the T-square to the side of the table.

4. Line up the border of the drafting paper so that it is parallel to the t-square.

5. Tape the drafting paper into place - being careful to not knock the paper askew (ie. non-parallel.)

6. Double check to ensure the border is still parallel to the T-square. If not, start again at step 3.
