After examining Michaela Remmel's poem "Lost Innocence", we can see how she used a lyric poem to express her feelings and emotions on the unfair treatment of the poor and the irony of freedom and war. We also noticed how she used figurative language such as personification and hyperbole, to get readers to better understand how she feels. In addition, Remmel used sound devices such as "rhyme" and "assonance" to give her poem a nice style and flow.

Another type of figurative language Remmel used in her poem is "Hyperbole". A "hyperbole" is an "exaggerated statement or claim not meant to be taken literally."

Notice the way Remmel used Assonance in this stanza taken from "Lost Innocence" by Michaela Remmel:
"Joy lost,
The Holocaust.
We look to see
Hearts covered in frost."
The biggest sound device that Remmel used in this poem is "Rhyme".
"Rhyming" is when words are used that have different beginnings but the same middle and/or ending sounds.
Notice the rhyming pattern she used in the following two stanzas taken from "Lost Innocence" by Michaela Remmel:

Lost Innocence by Michaela Remmel is a poem about the way Remmel views the world. How the world has slowly but steadily taken a turn for the worst, and how we as humans are blind to some of the horrible things that we are causing.
In this presentation we will be examining ways in which Remmel used the following:
