The Yorkists

Following the failure of the Lovell Rebellion, the

Yorkists learned that a loyal Prince was needed.

No Yorkist princes were available, so the Yorkists turned to Symonds and his imposter, Simnel, to support them.

The Lambert Simnel Rebellion

Who was Symonds?

Richard Symonds was a priest from Oxford.

A Striking Resemblance

Symonds was the tutor of the young Simnel.

Knowing that Simnel resembled Edward VI, Symonds played on the idea that the Princes in the Tower were not actually dead .....

Symonds raised Simnel to act like royalty so that he could be passed off as Edward VI

He knew that if Simnel became royalty, he would be rewarded with power and the coveted position as a high bishop.

He had an insatiable thirst for power, and wished to become a high-ranking bishop.

Who Was Simnel?

A young boy of only 10, Lambert Simnel bore a striking resemblance to Edward of Warwick.

Edward of Warwick was one of the young Princes imprisoned in the Tower of London by Richard III.
