Types of Manatee

WORD MEANING

Manatee means “with breast” and his scientific name is “Trichechus”, but they must be remembered as the sea cows.

Physical

Personality

  • Measure up to 13 feet long
  • Weigh as much as 1.300 pounds
  • Only animal known to have a vascular cornea
  • Hair color is brownish gray
  • Thick wrinkled skin.
  • Herbivores and eat over 60 different plants species.
  • More than 50% of the day sleeping submerged
  • Solitary animals.
  • Capable of understanding tasks and signs of complex associative learning.
  • Good long-term memory
  • The Amazonia manatee:

- Inhabits in the Amazon River

- Never ventures into salt water

  • The West African manatee:

- West coast of Africa from the Senegal River to the Kwanza River.
