Responsibilities Federal Government
- Issues dealing with defence
- Isuues dealing with other countries (i.e, USA, China)
- Currency with money
- Unemployment Insurance
- Immigrantion (Citizenship)
Responsiblities Provincial Government
- Provincial Taxes (i.e, provincial sales taxes)
- Hiring, paying, and supervising provincial employees
- Licensing of shops and bars
- Charities
- Establishing and maintaing hospitals
Shared Powers and Residual Powers
- A political system
- Government power and responsibilty is divided
- Divided between the federal legistlature and provincial legistlatures
- Federal and Provincial governments can both create laws (i.e, immigration)
- Residual powers: In the constituiton, any "leftover" power not specifically listed, remain within the federal government
- Residual powers apply to new areas of jursidiction (i.e, computers, modems and faxes)
