Plant Life for Temperate Decidous Forests

Includes many different types of trees including: oak, maple, beech, hickory, and chestnut. All of which are broadleaf trees and have thick bark to protect them in wintertime.

Also contains small shrubs like mountain laurel and azaleas, and even has some mosses grow on the floor where there is little sunlight.

Long growing seasons makes temperate decidous forests prime locations for agriculture. Soil tends to be extremly fertile and typically recieves adequate rainfall.

1.) Lady Fern-"Athyrium filix-femina" likes damp shady woodland floors, is grown for decoration in homes, is a cespitose(meaning fronds rise from a central point.)

2.) White Oak Tree-"Qurcus alba" produces acorns, has light grey bark, has had some specimens known to be 450 years old, and is one of the pre-eminent harwoods of Eastern and Northern America.

3.) Poison Ivy-"Toxicodendron radicans" is known for its association with itching rash, which is caused by urushiol; a liquid compund in the sap, poison ivy is not considered a real direvitive of ivy. If you come in contact with poison ivy, Calamine lotion will help with external blisters and and corticosteroids will help with inflamattion and swelling.

During the summertime, temperate decidious forests have plenty of sunshine with the occasional rain shower and warm temperatures, so remember to bring plenty of swimsuits, shorts and other warm weathr neccesities, but also pack a light jacket in the case of storms.
