The Wright brothers invented/flew the first airplane in North Carolina.

One of the natural resources in the Southeast region is peanuts. They grow more than any place in the world.
Another natural resource is peaches. If you go to the store and buy peaches chances are that you will buy peaches that were grown in the Southeast region.

The last fun fact is that there were summer olympics held there and they made a fountain just for them.
