"Night Stalker"

Murders

Many media outlets identified Ramirez as the "Night Stalker" because at one point, Ramirez and his sisters husband would peep on women at their homes during the night and because majority of his crimes took place during the night.

Final Outcome

Ramirez was convicted of all charges placed against him: 13 counts of murder, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults and 14 burglaries

He was sentenced to death in California's gas chamber.

  • His first murder was of Mei Leung. She was found raped, beaten and stabbed to death in the basement of the hotel Ramirez was living in at the time.

  • During majority of his murders, he tied up and raped the women in the household, sometimes more than once, while he would shoot the men point blank after beating both. If the household had children he would tie the children up and make watch and force them to tell Ramirez where the valuables in the house we placed.

  • He would sometimes mutilate the bodies of his victims, while others survived Ramirez.

  • After the murders he would often draw pentagrams on the walls of his victims homes and make them "Swear to Satan" that there were no further valuables in the home.

Forensics Involved

  • A fingerprint was found on the screen door of one of his victims.

-Police will photograph the fingerprint with a high-resolution camera and then lift the fingerprint with adhesive tape.

  • A witness described Ramirez as a "curly-haired attacker with bulging eyes and wide-spaced teeth."

-Investigators will employ a sketch artist to create a sketch of the suspect to help identify him.

  • In one case Ramirez had left a footprint of Avia sneakers in flowerbed.

-Like fingerprints, investigators will photograph the footprint and will sometimes cast the footprint or lift it will adhesive tape.

Richard Ramirez was a serial killer, rapist and burglar in America during 1984-1985. He was known as the "Night Stalker" in the Los Angles and San Francisco area. He was convicted of 13 murders, 5 attempted murders, 11 counts of sexual assaults, and 14 counts of burglary and home invasion.

  • Ramirez was witnessed driving a stolen Toyota and police were provided with a partial license plate number.

-Police are able to track a car down if a partial or whole license plate number is provided since each one is unique.

  • Bullets and other fingerprints were found at the homes of the victims and in the stolen car.

-These can be traced back and linked to the other crimes Ramirez had committed.

Richard Ramirez was an avowed Satanist and murderer. The evidence that was presented shows that Ramirez is guilty; fingerprints, stolen cars, sketches, and bullets, all matched and led back to Ramirez.

Ramirez was a devoted Satanist and made his victims "Swear to Satan" during his crimes.

Ramirez gained most of his violence and will from his family members. His father and uncle both had abusive fits towards the other members of the family. His uncle, Miguel Ramirez, was a returning Vietnam war veteran that often showed Richard gruesome pictures of women he had beheaded and raped in Vietnam. His uncle taught him how to commit murder in a stealthy and sure way.
