THE EVOLUTIONARY TIMELINE OF THE DOG

LYCAON

CYNODICTIS

BOROPHAGUS

THE BEGINNING

Lycaon was a wild African hunting dog

African wild dog, member of the biological family canidae, body designed for a predoimnatly hyper-carnivorous diet with fewer toes and dentiton. They're still around today, though, they're now an endangered species. Their population size is continuing to decline as a result of habitat fragmentation, conflict with human activites, and diseases.

Early North America Hyaena like.

They're known for their line of bone crushing-dogs, also called hyena-like dogs. They're jaws are way more developed. Though, instead of hunting for new prey, they content themseleves with the leftovers.

Cynodictis is the grandfather of all dog family.

They were one of the first members in the mammalian predators, then much better known as 'bear dogs'. This was a medium-sized long mammal, with a long tail and a fairly brushy coat.

Dogs have been around for years. They're cute and our best friends. The evolution of the dog is split up into 7 parts:

CANIS LUPUS (THE GREY WOLF

MIACIS

Transitioning and adapting to their new enviroment, these wolves are used by humans to be bred. This starts to genetically change their offsets. Over generations, the original wild grey wolf has changed and a new species appeared that is genetically different: The Canis Familiaris or the Dog.

Daphoenus was the first bear dog.

These had the size of our coyotes today and sharp important similarities with today's dogs and bears. They could only perform short accelerations and sprints due to their short legs.

Miacis is a common ancestor of dog and bear (around 40 million years ago). Miacis was a mammal with a weasel-like body, five toed legs, a very long thin tail and sharp pointy ears. It is known for one of the first ancestors of the coyote. They lived in North America and in European continents.

They've been on earth for around 6.83 millions of years, they've inhabited most of the North American continent. They had sharp claws to catch preys while hunting and an appearance resembling dogs today. They have an incredibly strong bite force that they use to kill animals.
