Legacy

The Wars

I hope that my legacy of all the accomplishments i made will forever change the way us as canadians think of aircraft's and flying will live on forever. Thank you for listening to me i hope you enjoyed learning about my past and legacy.

In my life i had some large roles in two of the biggest wars of all time i went through World war 1 and 2. In 1915 I build my own aircraft school for people interested in building or flying aircraft's. My school later started to build aircraft's for "Curtis Areoplanes" These aircraft's were later used for the canadian army in World War 1. We later started building these aircraft's at the manufacturing company called the "Canadian Areoplanes" Where we built aircraft's for the Royal Flying Corps. Later I was named the Assistant General of Aircraft productions for the Canadian army through out World War 2. I kept that title until 1947. After the wars were over I started to receive all of the achievements I have gotten.

My Achievements

John A. D. McCurdy

Through out my life i accomplished many things that made me as memorable as i am today. My first huge achievement was being the first british subject to fly an aircraft in 1909 when i piloted the silver dart. It was also the first ever powered aircraft to fly in Canada. My next accomplishment Is when i was appointed lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.

Then i was later awarded the McKee trophy at the 50th anniversary of the flight of the silver dart. I also got an award under my name called the "McCurdy Award" Later that same year i was inducted into the Canadian Aviation hall of fame. The latest accomplishment i made was having an airport in sydney named after myself. These are all scomplishment i made for the things i did before i recieved them, now lets talk a bit about that.

My Life

I was born in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.

My full name is John Alexander Douglas McCurdy. But i was usually known by Douglas. I went to school at St. Andrews collage in Aurora, ON, I later graduated from the university of Toronto with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1906.

The following year i joined Alexander Graham bells Aerial Experiment Association. I later helped my friend Glen Curtiss to make the Curtiss Aeroplane and motor company where i became the first british subject to fly an aircraft.

Yet did i know that I John A. D. McCurdy would die in 1961 in Montreal, Quebec because of an illness. Although just recently before that i would have a award in my name. The "McCurdy Award" which would be given to someone in the institute of aircraft technician at McGill University. It is said that the award commemorates the contributions i made during the devolpment of the aviation indusry in North America.
