What is a Myth?
What Mythology meant to Greek People
Zeus
Greek Mythology was the Greek's Religion.
With it, came explanations of things considered modern at their time. Examples of things that were explained:
-Seasons
-The Sun(day and Night)
OLYMPUS
Athena
Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and War Strategy.

Her favourite Animal is an Owl, and she is often shown with a helmet, and shield.

Apollo
Apollo is the God of The Sun, Music, Poetry and Truth. Every day he runs his chariot(the sun) across the sky.

He
is the Twin Brother of
Artemis.

He is the one who influenced the Oracle of Delphi's Prophecies.
Artemis
Zeus is the God of the Sky and Thunder.

He is considered to be "Father to Gods and Men."

The symbols used to represent him are a thunderbolt, a eagle a bull & oak.
Artemis is the Goddess of Hunting and Wilderness, child-birth and Virginity along with The Moon. She is often considered to be the protector of young girls. Symbols commonly used to depict her are a deer (which was considered to be her favourite animal) and the cypress tree.

Who do we treat like Gods and Goddesses in Modern Society?
Celebrities and Pop Culture Icons!

People like famous singer/song-writer and guitarist Jimi Hendrix, are worshipped and fawned over, even after death, as well as lead vocalist of NIRVANA, Kurt Cobain.

Other People include the Christian Icon, Jesus; Pop Star Beyonce, and Civil Rights Leader, Martin Luther King Jr.
Pythia, aka,
The Oracle of Delphi,
was a Priestess who resided in
Apollo's
Temple

Her visions and predictions were influenced by, you guessed it, The God Apollo.

Her predictions were famous for being
ambiguous.

To compare today's idols with the greek gods
Of the people we picked, i believe that martin luther king Jr. is most similar to Athena due to their impeccable wisdom and aptitude for peace despite that they leave war in their wake.
I also believe that Jesus is most like Zeus due to their inborn leadership as well as their wealth of wisdom
