Today we'll look at inference. How do we know when to look into a writer or speaker's words and focus on what is IMPLIED rather than what is LITERAL?

Harriet Tubman

As we continue to take notes on the biographical video, focus your note-taking on evidence that Tubman was brave.

Some Notes: While the prompt involves both bravery and Tubman's moniker as "the Moses of the people," you can assume that to be the "Moses" of her people, she *had* to be brave. So, focus your essay on analyzing the strength of the claims that she is brave. Provide textual evidence for her bravery from each of the three texts.

Last week it seems like a lot of the quotes were pointing to "living life in the moment." With all of that focus on being present, I don't want anyone to lose sight of the value of GOALS! So, this week's quotes are on GOALS.

Remember: Copy the quote an author completely and accurately, then respond meaningfully. Think of it this way: write what you think the quote means, then EXPLAIN.

"Setting goals is the first step in turning "the invisible into the visible.
