Prevalence of This Cancer: In 2014, there were an estimated 162,341 people living with brain and other nervous system cancer in the United States.

This number does not seem like a lot but think about it this way...

How Can You Help?

The blue dots represent where the cancer happens within the brain. These are called cancer/tumor regions.

What?

World Cancer Day 5K To End Cancer

There are many sorts of programs and events to try and cure cancer for everyone.

What charecteristics do these people have in common?

As I mentioned earlier people have adults and genes with diseased cells and have a higher chance of being diagnosed. Aw, that's to bad. :(

Brain Cancer

Of those, about 36,000 are primary brain tumors. Brain tumors can occur at any age, but they're most common in adults between the ages of 40 and 70 and in children between the ages of 3 and 12. Primary brain tumors account for only 2 percent to 3 percent of all new cancer cases in adults.

Lifetime Risk of Developing Cancer: Approximately 0.6 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with brain and other nervous system cancer at some point during their lifetime, based on 2012-2014 data.

Where Brain Cancer

Comes From

How cancer affects people like you.

When?

Who?

Brain cancer sometimes starts in the brain. Sometimes it transfers from other cancers inside of you. This is called metastic brain cancer. Cancer is not a single disease but a group of related diseases. Many things in our genes, our lifestyle, and the environment around us may increase or decrease our risk of getting cancer.

Scientists are studying many different ways to help prevent cancer, including the following:

•Ways to avoid or control things known to cause cancer.

•Changes in diet and lifestyle.

•Finding precancerous conditions early. Precancerous conditions are conditions that may become cancer.

• Chemoprevention (medicines to treat a precancerous condition or to keep cancer from starting).

•Risk-reducing surgery.

Also, about 4,830 children will be diagnosed with a brain or CNS tumor this year. Brain and other nervous system cancer is the 10th leading cause of death for both men and women. It is estimated that 16,700 adults (9,620 men and 7,080 women) will die from primary cancerous brain and CNS tumors this year.

A primary brain or spinal cord tumor is a tumor that starts in the brain or spinal cord. This year, an estimated 23,800 adults (13,450 men and 10,350 women) in the United States will be diagnosed with primary cancerous tumors of the brain and spinal cord this year.

It happens because a large amount of abnormal cells. Tumors can also occur in the brain. Mostly brain cancers and tumors come from genetics so if your parents are diseased there is a high chance you are too. Uh-oh. That's not good.

The 5-year survival rate tells you what percent of people live at least 5 years after the tumor is found. Percent means how many out of 100. The 5-year survival rate for people with cancerous brain or CNS tumors is 34% for men and 36% for women. However, survival rates vary widely and depends on several factors, including the type of brain or spinal cord tumor.

To completely understand completely where a tumor/cancer starts you have to look at a brain.
