Signing Naturally Unit 6

Weekly Activities

Review Day!!

Similar to yesterdays activity, you will be going around the room and asking everyone what they do on a certain day.

You will need to ask a different day and time for each person in order to fill up your week. You may have 1-2 blanks.

When you are ANSWERING other people's questions, try to pick a different activity. Don't just respond with:

ME PLAY BASKETBALL

over, and over, and over, and over again. :)

To get ready for your test next week, we are going to play a review game.

ENJOY LIKE OK SO-SO BORING DON'T-LIKE AWFUL

Non-Dominant Hand: Sign the total # of people in class.

Dominant Hand: "Pull" the number of people that had that opinion of your activity and sign to your dominant side.

This means "out of" when signing statistics in ASL.

Ex: Out of 20 students, 4 enjoy swimming.

STUDENTS 20, 4 ENJOY SWIM.

Any volunteers to share their numbers??

We will present today and tomorrow, if needed.

Reasons for being late

How to list on one hand

(family)

On your non-dominant hand, hold up the number of people in your family, including your parents and yourself.

If you have more than 5 people, use your dominant to continue.

Start by listing the person who is oldest on your thumb. Work your way down from oldest to youngest, thumb to pinky.

This can be used for any kind of list. (class periods, grocery lists, etc.)

How to list on one hand

(lists in general)

If you know how many things you will list, hold up that number on your ND hand. Start with your thumb (#1) and begin your list downward.

Example: Reasons for being late (three total)

First (thumb) - ME WOKE UP LATE

SECOND (pointer) - ME HURRY SHOWER CHANGE-CLOTHES

THIRD (middle) - DRIVE GO-TO SCHOOL. STOP ALL RED LIGHT.

What is your opinion of...

  • Watching basketball
  • Studying
  • Cleaning
  • Playing cards

As you have already learned from your notes on Tuesday, it is very important to share with a Deaf person why you showed up late or missed an event. In the hearing world, we would apologize for being late and include a reason. Same goes for the Deaf community.

You and a partner will come up with a dialogue in which you will both share why you were late or missed an event.

You must include at least 3 reasons why you are late and list them on your hand.

Include time signs! (morning, afternoon, night, all-day, all-night, etc.)

I will give you a basic layout to follow.

Practice makes perfect!!!

A: SORRY ME LATE TO (EVENT)

B: OK (NMM: head nod) ME LATE TOO!

A: YOU LATE WHY?

B: 1ST (TIME, if used) (ACTIVITY)

2ND (TIME, if used) (ACTIVITY)

3RD (TIME, if used) (ACTIVITY)

A: OH-I-SEE. ME LATE WHY?

1ST (TIME, if used) (ACTIVITY)

2ND (TIME, if used) (ACTIVITY)

3RD (TIME, if used) (ACTIVITY)

B: OH-I-SEE READY GO-TO (EVENT)

A: SURE!

Of course, we will share!!!

You have 5 minutes to practice!!!
