Always use appropriate language when online

Don't say anything you don't want a teacher to see

Never use threatening, abusive , or profane language. Threatening a student or teacher will involve the police.

You are responsible for the language you use online

What is the AUP

Using bad language has many punishments going all the way from suspensions to the police becoming involved. So never use bad language anywhere this includes chat sites, emails, or anything done through the computers.

  • The AUP is The Glen Rock Acceptable Use Policy
  • The AUP is a contract that you and your parents sign stating that you understand the rules and responsibilities of the computers
  • Always remember the rules are here for your protection
  • And when not followed there will be consequences
  • These rules tell you what you can not do on the computers

You are responsible for your use of the school network

This means you are held responsible for whatever you do on the computers, so don't do anything you don't want a teacher to see. Also remember that you are not allowed to look at material that is inappropriate for school. Remember if you break these rules there will be a punishment.

You are responsible for how you treat others online

It is important to treat others the way you want to be treated when you're online, Cyberbullying is now one of the most common forms of bullying in the U.S.A.

Even though you think no one knows who you are you will eventually be caught if you; threaten, harass, or Cyber-bully a fellow student.

You are responsible for protecting the security of the school network

prohibited

This means all of the you can not download anything to the school computers, and you should not try to bypass the security filters that the school has in place, ( as annoying as they may be they are still here for your protection).

The AUP also prohibits playing games and listening to/ or downloading music onto any of the schools computers.

You are responsible for your account

Your password is made to protect your information, so if you give away your password you are not only breaking a school rule you are also putting all of your accounts information at risk.

Never share your password with anyone even other students, sharing your password puts at risk to

  • Hackers
  • Identity thieves
  • bullies

You are responsible for protecting school property

You are responsible for being honest when online

You are Responsible for your conduct on all online sights

This means:

  • never purposefully damage a school computer
  • Do not change the settings on a computer
  • Never use an electronic device to do purposeful harm to the school network

you are responsible for following Glen Rocks rules when you publish online

This means keep your privacy private do not do anything that could give away yours or others identities. Protect your personal information to keep yourself safe, and to protect your online reputation. Remember if you put your name on the internet it will be viewable to everyone. Never post info about other students because now you are not putting yourself in harms way you are harming other, and there will be consequences

You are responsible for respecting other peoples property online

Pretending to be someone else online, can be a crime.

Sending a message a someone else is a crime and could be considered identity theft.

This would involve police, principals, teachers, parents, etc.

So a log story short do not pretend to be someone else online.

Obey copyright laws at all times

Never download anything without permission from the owner

If you do want to use something remember to cite your source so that the author gets full credit for the work they did

This rule means your conduct on websites after school can still get you into trouble in-school for example: If you make fun of someone in your school on a social media sight, then you can be punished in school for this even though it did not happen in school. This means that your responsibilities do not end at the end of school. But this rule is easy to follow just treat others the way you would like to be treated.
