Importance of the Issue:

Social media is a negative issue in society, affecting communication skills, privacy, and world issues. If the addiction does not stop soon, society will be stuck in the obsession of social media sites.

  • The affects of technology have been studied since the rapid growth of technology in the 40s.
  • More recently, the affects of social medias in particular have become a part of most people's everyday lives.
  • Social medias such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are negatively affecting the world around us.

Growth." Arizona Republic: 13. Dec 28 2012. ProQuest. Web. 25 Nov. 2013

The rapid growth of social media sites has affected society in a negative way by leading people to focus more on insignificant topics, impairing their communication skills, and providing access for privacy violations.

This issue is crucial for people to take into consideration because it can affect the whole entire world. By deciding that this issue is indeed negative, the world can stop worrying so much about insignificant things, and result in a better place to live. Focusing more on important issues such as governmental issues dealing with economy, health care, and job creation will create improvements in all of these areas. If you look at how social medias are affecting things like time with friends and family, schoolwork, and the privacy of others, you will see that it is an unhealthy addiction.

It is much easier for these kids to add their crush as a friend on Facebook with just a click, bully a classmate, chat with a friend, or see what someone looks like through uploaded photographs, rather than doing so through person-to-person interaction. This problem is a result of Facebook allowing you to publish the best image of yourself and share that with anyone you want, wherever and whenever is most convenient for you. It allows children who are still developing their social skills to escape that necessary growth process. Instead of making a mistake in conversation and learning from it, each child can hide behind his or her Facebook page in complete comfort, critiquing every letter typed and every photograph uploaded. Two Perspectives of the Issue:

-Some experts think that the use of social medias would help the world reunite with old friends, and create more connected communities.

-Others believe that social medias have become an insignificant distraction.
