When did the Spanish first discover Philippines?

Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521,March 16th discover Philippines.

Ferdinand Magellan discovered Homonhon(island) and claiming the lands for Spain and naming them Islas De San Lazaro.

The Spanish didn't invade and colonize until 1564.

Did the Filipinos fight back for freedom and Independence?Did they succeed?

The Battle of Mactan was the very first uprising from the native people against the Spanish.

Filipinos rose up and tried to defeat the Spanish,the Filipinos succeeded and this led to the Spanish-American War which led to the Spanish ceding the Philippines to the American.

In conclusion,the Spanish were responsible for uniting the Philippines and giving the Philippines its name.So basically the Philippines was brought into one single entity by the Spanish,so if Spain never colonized the Philippines.The Philippines wouldnt be a country and we could be looking at several different countries packed into one groups of islands.
