Detour

Northampton - Silverstone Circuit

One team member must race a professional racecar driver at the famous Silverstone Circuit. They must complete 5 full laps in order to complete the fast forward.

Northampton - Sywell Aerodrome

  • The current home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted in 1948
  • Built on the site of a WWII Royal Air Force bomber station
  • The length of the circuit is about 5.9 km
  • Located on the border of Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire

Leg 4

  • It is an airport that opened in 1928 during WWII
  • Was used as a training facility during the war
  • Has a museum inside of it with memorabilia from the war
  • Holds biannual airshows showcasing warcraft

Fast Forward

Northampton - Nene Whitewater Centre

  • The UK's first pumped artificial whitewater course.
  • 300 metres long
  • Offers a range of activities such as tubing, rafting and canoeing.
  • The home of local rowing clubs

Road Block

To obtain the fast forward pass, teams must race down a whitewater course in a raft. But be careful; the fast forward pass is hidden somewhere along the course and it may take a few tries to find it amidst the rough waters.

London - Petticoat Lane Market

London - London Wetland Centre

  • It is an urban oasis for wildlife and people
  • It is a conservation charity that saves wetlands
  • Opened in 2000
  • Best location for bird-watching in London

Fly or Find

One team member must go on a bird-watching adventure and find 16 bird species pictured in a book. They must photograph each bird, then correctly match each picture with the bird's name (which they must guess according to physical features of the birds) on a puzzle board. When guessed correctly, the first letter of each bird's name in the order in the puzzle spells out the location of the pit stop.

Northampton - Abington Park

  • Got its name from the short coats worn by men in the 16th century
  • Best known as a popular clothes market to find clothes with marked down prices
  • The storeholders used to be all from the nearby Jewish community
  • It's been a market for over 500 years

Fly: Take a 30 minute trip on a glider around Northampton. You may have to wait but it won't be hard.

Find: Locate 6 artifacts around the museum given only tricky riddles. This detour is harder but can be completed quickly.

  • Northampton's oldest and most popular park
  • Contains ruins of the former village of Abington
  • Parklands were created in the 17th century
  • Site of a medieval manorhouse which is now a museum
  • There is also a small tearoom in the park called The Park Cafe
  • Has a bandstand to accommodate various summer festivals and local bands

London - Buckingham Palace

• One of the Queen’s residential homes

• Home to Britain’s constitutional monarchy

• More than 50,000 people visit per year for dinner, garden parties, receptions, etc.

• Became a principal Royal residence in 1837

Gourmet or Fashion

Gourmet: Team members must eat a full 3 course meal consisting of London's finest foods, including jellied eels, cockles (clams), rollmops (pickled herring) and winkles (sea snails).

Fashion: Teams are given a picture of two very unique outfits. They must search the entire market for the exact clothing pieces in the outfits, then wear the outfits to find a store clerk who will give them their next clue.

  • Capture the Royal Baby (objective: first team to kidnap Prince George and make it past the guards gets the Fast Forward)
  • Skydiving with the Queen (objective: jump out of an airplane while on the Queen's back to the sound of James Bond music)
  • Big Ben Bungee (objective: self-explanatory)
  • Skywheel Scare (objective: gain access to the control panel of the skywheel and set it to full speed. The team who counts the most passenger screams advances first)

Detour

  • Obtained the Green Flag Award in 2012 for having a clean, green, safe environment
  • One area many centuries ago was used for horse racing
  • Contains many sports facilities such as golf courses
  • Recreation Ground opened in 1986

One team member must ride a horse through the park and seek out the route marker for their next clue. There are several pathways, so it may take some time.

  • Opened on November 18, 1878
  • Seats approx. 1500 people
  • Home to Opera North and regularly visited by Northern Ballet
  • It also hosts many touring production, musical performances and comedians

Fast Forward

Hull - KC Stadium

Teams must train with professional rugby players, participating in their everyday routine. If the coach approves the teams' training skills, they get the next clue.

  • Building start in early 1990's and finished in 2002
  • Cost 44 million pounds to build
  • Capacity of 25,400 people
  • Want to renovate to 32,000 people eventually
  • Musical performances here such as Elton John and The Who.

Liverpool - Royal Liver Building

Sing: Team members must learn a section from a famous Opera duet song, taught to them by a professional opera singer. There will be a judge who will decide whether the teams are good enough to receive the next clue. Fairly short song, but hard to sing together!

Dance: Teams must learn a short part from a ballet dance taught to them by professional ballerina's and perform it. Judge will be deciding if they are good enough to get the next clue. Fairly long routine, but simple.

  • Founded as a borough in 1207, and granted city status in 1880
  • The population in Liverpool is about 470,000
  • Liverpool was the port of registry for the RMS Titanic
  • Opened in 1911 and sited at the Pier Head
  • It was the tallest building in Europe in 1932 at 300ft tall.

Birmingham - Cadbury Factory

Derby - Mine It OR Learn It!

• Known as Cadbury World

• One-way self guided-tour

• Attracts over 500,000 visitors a year

• 14 different zones about history of Cadbury

• Animatronics, interactive activities, staff demonstrations, etc.

Search all Cadbury themed sections in the Cadbury factory for 8 hidden Dairy Milk chocolate bars that have clues on the back. After one team member has found the chocolate bars, he/she must rearrange the chocolate bars so it reveals a message that will guide them to a factory worker who will provide teams with their next clue.

Fast Forward

Coventry - Midland Air Museum

  • Largest aircraft is Avro Vulcan B.2
  • Restored delta-wing aircraft used in the Cold War
  • WW2 Robin Hanger airplane was acquired in 1995 giving the museum great value.

Learn It: Teams must ride up the Heights of Abraham in a cable car and memorize a short passage on the history of the Heights of Abraham, then ride back down and recite it to a tour guide waiting at the bottom. If they are incorrect, they must travel back up in a cart and try again. Time consuming, but not very hard.

Mine It: Teams must enter the narrow cave of the Great Rutland Cavern, and search for the next clue hidden within the cavern. Quick, but hard to find. Beware, it is dark in there!

  • This group of planes collection started in 1967 by local plane enthusiasts.

Teams must take pictures of 6 airplanes that are provided on a list. The catch is, they are only given the airplane number code on the list. Whichever team brings back the pictures of the correct airplanes the fastest, gets the fast forward!

  • Full of unique water displays, art, and lighting fixtures.

  • Over 170 woodlands and 88 public gardens and parks.
  • Major tourist attraction in the town of Matlock Bath, in Derby
  • Cable car opened in 1984 - first ever cable car in Britain
  • The park has been opened since Victorian times
  • Includes mine and cavern tours
  • Great Rutland Cavern - mainly mine for lead
