Photosynthesis

Cellular Respiration

Alcohol Fermentation

Some bacteria also undergo fermentation. They release ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide.

C6H12O6  ATP + CO2 + ethyl alcohol

This process is key for the bacteria that create wine and apple juice.

Yeast also undergo this type of fermentation when making bread. The holes from the CO2 that are released can be seen when you slice a piece of bread.

Lactic Acid Fermentation

10/25/17 Anaerobic Respiration

When our cells run out of oxygen and begin fermentation, we build up lactic acid.

That lactic acid build up in the muscle makes us feel a cramp.

C6H12O6  ATP + lactic acid

Objective: We will evaluate the reactants and products of anaerobic respiration

Product: I will compare and contrast photosynthesis and cellular respiration using foam manipulatives and a venn diagram.

Anaerobic Respiration (Fermentation)

  • Occurs when there is no oxygen for a short period of time.
  • In anaerobic respiration, the first 2 steps of respiration will take place (Glucose --> Pyruvic Acid); however, the Electron Transport Chain will not take place.
  • The grand total of ATP molecules released will be 4.

Summarizing Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration

The products of photosynthesis are the reactants of cellular respiration
