Mount Everest is 8848 metres tall, the highest in the world. It is in Nepal. The mountain is over 60 million years old. It grows about 0.25 inches per year. Its peak is snowy all year round.
The wind on Everest can be up to 200mph. It can be as cold as -62.2 C. It can be very hot with temperatures up to 37.7 C.
In Tibet, Everest is called Chomolungma. It is called Sagarmatha. It used to be called Peak 15 (Everest is far more catchy). It was renamed Everest in 1865.
Edmund Hillary was the first person to climb Mount Everest. The youngest person to climb it was only 13!!!!
