Who Was Osama Bin Laden?

Many charitable organizations and volunteers tried their best to find schools, community centres, and to provide food and coffee to many stranded passengers. The town of Gander had an extra 6700 people added to their population, people opened up their homes to people in need of a shower or some warm food.

How Canada Helped

Osama Bin Laden was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1957, he was a very strong supporter of international terrorism and was the mastermind of many terrorist acts, 9/11 being the most recognized.

Osama and his Hate Against the U.S

At the time of the attacks, the United States had closed all of their air spaces and hundreds of planes that were carrying countless amounts of passengers were diverted to Canadian airports.

Canada's Losses

The U.S had sent troops to Saudi Arabia to protect them from an Iraqi invasion, Bin Laden did not think of this too fondly. He thought it was disrespectful for american troops to walk over their holy land his main hatred for the U.S was just because of their presence in Saudi Arabia

How the Attacks Were Carried out

On the day of the attacks twenty-four Canadian citizens lost their lives during these attacks, two of the people who died on that day were

Christine Egan, 55, a nurse from Winnipeg who was visiting her brother in New York.

Alexander Filipov, 70, married with three sons. Was on American Airlines Flight 11.

Osama issued a Fatwa (religious edict or command) for muslims to kill all Americans. The airplanes were hijacked from the east coast to west because they carried large ammounts of fuel, box cutters were carried aboard the planes to kill the pilots.

Emergency Security Control of Air Traffic Plan

With the fear of an on board bomb or terror device being aboard the planes landed every plane that touched down in Canada was searched and every passenger had to be screened, some were even forced to stay on the tarmac for more than 24 hours.

The action that was taken by the military was called the "Emergency Security Control of Air Traffic Plan", this was something that was meant to be reserved for times of war. The Canadian Military had take control of the skies

The September 11, 2001 attacks (also referred to as 9/11) were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

The hijackers were organized into four teams, each led by a pilot-trained hijacker with three or four "muscle hijackers," who were trained to help subdue the pilots, passengers, and crew.
