Relations to the piece in 2012

865 bills were passed in 2012 regarding immigrants and refugees in 45 states.

Why was this story included in the anthology?

This was included in the anthology to show the readers that it is extremely hard to get into the country and it is a very long process to become legal, and also to show that immigrants come here to find a better life but that when they get to America it is not all they wanted it to be, and if anything it was very disappointing.

Why we Think this piece was written.

  • To show that immigrants think the America is great but it really is not.
  • To tell everyone about her experience of immigration and the disappointment she faced when she got here.
  • I think this piece was written because it shows that immigrants that want to come to America face a hard journey and long process to become legal but when they get here it’s not the sanctuary or place they had expected it to be.

Theme

  • Having too high of expectations when immigrants come to America, and are disappointed when the reality sinks in.
