Survey

Research

For my survey I asked 27 people aged between 25-40 years who all use automobiles on a regular bases in the UK and asked them whether they would be considering to use electric cars over the petrol and diesel cars they currently use, and what was preventing them from getting it previously. The results came back as:

Thee research I conducted was a mix between primary and secondary research as I used secondary research for the majority of my work I used primary research to conduct surveys to back up the pints of my secondary research by conducting surveys

Reasons for topic

Thank you for watching

  • Video research
  • www.ted.com/talks

Websites used to proof articles

  • en.wikipedia.org
  • www.autoexpress.com

The main reason why I chose this as the topic of my EPQ project is due to my interest from a young age but, this is also due to people saying that the amount of CO2 in the world is increasing and blaming it on cars but, I am seeing if the fault is due to the fuel they consume or the manufacturing.

Primary research

  • Survey

EPQ Project

Current findings

  • Private motor transport and public transport contribute to 47% of UK carbon dioxide emissions.
  • NASA predict an increase in CO2 emissions from 2000-2100 with scenarios for a low, constant moderate and high growth from the year 2000.
  • Diesel cars produce 4x more carbon dioxide than buses.
  • UK government proposed the banning of petrol and diesel cars in 2050.
  • The first electric motor for cars was made in1859 by Gaston Plané using lead batteries.
  • Percentage of greenhouse gas contributed by each sector
  • Nitrogen is the biggest product from burning fossil fuels.

Project Title

Pros and Cons

'EU are planning to ban all petrol and diesel cars in the UK by 2050' -Telegraph

What damage are cs doing to the environment &will we be able to remove petrol and diesel cars from cities by 2050?

From this project I have learnt:

  • How to write an essay
  • How to research for reliability
  • How to conduct a survey
  • How to structure an essay
  • How to gather reliable research

Things I could have done better:

  • Time management
  • Additional primary research
  • Making a clear question
  • Writing 5000 words

Hypothesis

Through this project I would be analyzing how car pollution has adapted over time and how the government, society and car manufacturers are planning to do to reduce the amount of pollution caused

Sub-Questions

  • What changes are being proposed?
  • What is the current damage?
  • How popular are electric cars?
  • Why do people not but them?
  • What will future cars be like ?
  • Will it be too late by 2050?

Conclusion

Environmental Hazards

From this project I have seen that the the proposal is a good idea but, needs to be implemented sooner to reduce casualties. In addition the blame for the natural disasters cannot be specifically blamed on car manufacturers alone but on countries.

  • Toyota target a 90% reduction of fuel emissions by 2050.
  • First red alert from pollution in Beijing.
  • India Supreme court cracks down on Delhi vehicle pollution
  • Car companies in Germany are being forced to reveal software after Volkswagen scandal
  • EU law to raise car costs by £1,500 to make automobiles less attainable
  • Volkswagen have been using 'defeat devices' to give false readings during emission tests.

Design of Cars

The design of cars have been constantly changing from the discovery of w to convert fossil fuels into petrol and the revival of the electric motor.

As of late people have been finding ways of getting a reliable fuel source other than petrol and electricity this has forced the investigation into hydrogen. In addition people have also been findings ways of making driving easier for users and less fuel consuming which also led to the development of hand free driving.
