I really enjoyed this book. Thirteen Reasons Why had a unique writing style. It would have Clay talking and then all of a sudden there would be a picture of a play button and then Hannah's recordings would begin. I thought that was really interesting and I have never seen that done before. Also, even though this book was fiction, it seemed very realistic and understandable. There were many messages conveyed in this book, as well. One message saying that you should treat everyone with respect because one unkind thing could change a persons life forever.
This picture shows the regret that Clay feels after finding out that he could have helped Hannah.
Clay Jensen is the main character in Thirteen Reasons Why. He is know as a goody goody. There is not one rumor about him that is bad and all of the rumors are true. He never does anything wrong. His crush was Hannah Baker and he never knew how she felt or what she was going through. Throughout the book, he realizes everything Hannah went through that led up to her suicide. He realizes that he could have helped her. He could have saved her. He starts to feel guilty and he regrets everything and how he did not help her because he did not see the horrible things that she went through.
This quote shows that rumors can change a persons life like they did Hannah's.
The main theme in Thirteen Reasons Why is the idea of blaming people and then the guilt that they feel. Throughout the book Hannah blames thirteen people for her death. The people then go on with their lives to feel guilty and horrible for what they did to make Hannah commit suicide. They all thought that they were doing no harm but they were. As the book goes on, Clay feels more and more guilty for Hannah's death. He cannot figure out what he did but he knows he did something or he would not be on these tapes. Therefore, guilt builds up inside of him. In the end, the main theme is guilt and blame.
This is my favorite paragraph because I think it is very important to the overall message of the book. Clay should have asked Hannah about what was going on in her life rather than listening to the rumors about her and this paragraph shows that. Clay did not realize at all how Hannah felt or what she was going through and if he just talked to her he could have helped.
This is an important quote from the book. Most people do not realize that one little thing can affect one persons life so strongly.
Thirteen Reasons Why is a book about Clay Jensen and the death of Hannah Baker. Clay gets a box of tapes in he mail one day and starts to watch them. He soon finds out that these tapes are thirteen reasons why Hannah Baker committed suicide. Each reason blames a different person. Clay goes through his town, the night he received the tapes, and follows a map put in his locker. He listens to Hannah speak of the people and reasons that she put an end to her life. He finds out how he is responsible for the death of Hannah Baker and he will never be the same.
