Transcript of Middle Level Practices

Purpose
We have not taken a critical look at our district's middle level practices in over 15 years.

We will begin by using the Essential Attributes and 16 Characteristics of Successful Schools for Young Adolescents, outlined by the Association for Middle Level Education noted within
This We Believe: Keys to Educating Young Adolescents
(2010), to guide our conversations and actions.
Forming a District Committee
April 2015 - October 2015
By April 2, 2015
- Committee members submitted to Dr. Meloche

April 2 - April 30, 2015
- Committee members will meet and a copy of
This We Believe: Keys to Educating Young Adolescents
(AMLE, 2010) will be distributed to the committee members. The committee will discuss the following topics within the reading: the importance of middle level education, major goals of middle level education, essential attributes, and essential characteristics.

May 1 - October 31, 2015
- Committee members will meet to initiate discussion on the following topics: curriculum, instruction, assessment characteristics, leadership, organization, culture, and community characteristics.
November 2015 - February 2016
November C&I Meeting
- A summary of the committee's work and plan for the committee's monthly meeting to be held November 2015 - May 2016 will be shared.

November 1 - February 28, 2016
- Committee will meet to review findings from previous meetings, identify areas of strength within our middle level practices as well as perceived areas of need. The committee will organize next steps.


September 2015 - May 2016
Committee meetings will continue monthly.

Actions and research will be conducted as planned through the committee's discussions (i.e. advisory, teaming, scheduling, exploratory).

Data collected this year will be shared with the committee.

Updates will be provided at the Board of Education C&I meetings during the months of November 2015,
March 2016, and May 2016.
