THE CYCLOPS

History of the

Cyclops

The Cyclops were the sons of Uranus (Sky) and Gaia (Earth).

The Cyclops where giants with only one round eye in their forehead.

The Cyclops name means "ring-eyed."

The Cyclops were stubborn and full of emotion.

There are two generations of Cyclops in Greek myth.

The first generation consisted of three brothers who came from

the union of Gaia and Uranus.

  • Brontes - God of thunder
  • Steropes - God of lightning
  • Arges - God of brightness

Polyphemus, a second generation cyclopes, was fathered by Poseidon.

Polyphemus is the most famous cyclops.

Uranus feared the Cyclops’ power and he cast them into Tartarus.

The Cyclops remained imprisoned until Zeus released them.

The Cyclops and the thunderbolts helped Zeus overthrow Cronus and the Titans and became ruler of the cosmos.

Zeus was grateful for the Cyclops’ help and allowed them to stay in Olympus as his armorers and helpers to Hephaestus

Apollo's son Asclepius brought the mortals back to life.

The Cyclops killed Apollo's son Asclepius.

Apollo killed the Cyclops for killing his son.
