Medical Procedures

How are modern medical procedures different from Medical Procedures in Beethoven's time?

Amputation

One of the most painful surgeries known to man.

Conclusion

Analysis

Now

1700's

  • Painless because of anesthesia
  • Easier because of technology
  • Prosthesis move and look like real body part
  • Two Main Ideas in sources explaining medical procedures
  • Either explaining old or new procedures
  • If explaining old procedures

- All agree that procedures were very painful

  • Comparing all sources proves how much medical provedures have changed.

Medical Procedures have changed greatly from the 1700’s and definitely for the better. In the 1700’s they did very painful and gruesome procedures with alcohol as the only anesthesia. Modern medical procedures are painless because of anesthesia. Because of technology, doctors are now able to have patients safely undergo surgeries with many less deaths than in the 1700s.

  • Doctors used bone saws as the primary tool.
  • Most commonly performed in wars by camp surgeons
  • Depending on the part amputated you are more likely to die.

Bibliography

  • Finding procedures that I could compare to modern procedures
  • Finding procedures around the 1700 to 1800's around Europe
  • Citing Sources not on recommended databasses

I am very interested in medicine/ medical procedures. I also wanted to learn more about the procedures that used to be performed. Also as read in "The Mysteries of Beethoven's Hair" we learned how Beethoven had sort of a bloodletting procedure. The doctor drained most of his bodily fluids/the wine he was drinking.
