Wife of Telemachus. Daughter-in-law of Odysseus and Penelope. daughter of Helios, the sun god, and of the ocean nymph Perse. The Greek hero Odysseus visited her island, Aeaea, with his companions, whom she changed into swine. But Odysseus, protected by the herb moly (a gift from Hermes), compelled her to restore them to their original shape. He stayed with her for one year before resuming his journey.

God of the sea. As the suitors are Odysseus’s mortal antagonists, Poseidon is his divine antagonist. He despises Odysseus for blinding his son, the Cyclops Polyphemus, and constantly hampers his journey home. Ironically, Poseidon is the patron of the seafaring Phaeacians, who ultimately help to return Odysseus to Ithaca.

At last the god Hermes was sent by Zeus, the king of the gods, to ask her to release Odysseus. According to Hesiod’s Theogony, she bore Odysseus twin sons, Nausithous and Nauseous.

A kyklops (cyclops) giant of Sikelia (Sicily) (southern Italy). He was a son of Poseidon and the sea-nymph Thoosa. the most famous of the Cyclopes. Polyphemus loved Galatea, a Sicilian Nereid, and killed her lover Acis. When the Greek hero Odysseus was cast ashore on the coast of Sicily, he fell into the hands of Polyphemus, who shut him up with 12 of his companions in his cave and blocked the entrance with an enormous rock. Odysseus at length succeeded in making Polyphemus drunk, blinded him by plunging a burning stake into his eye while he lay asleep, and, with six of his friends (the others having been devoured by Polyphemus), made his escape by clinging to the bellies of the sheep let out to pasture.

Athena assists Odysseus and Telemachus with divine powers throughout the epic, and she speaks up for them in the councils of the gods on Mount Olympus. She often appears in disguise as Mentor, an old friend of Odysseus.

She offers Telemachus assistance in his quest to find his father.

Odysseus meets Hermes, who is in disguise. Hermes does two specific things that allow Odysseus to survive the meeting with Circe.First of all, Hermes gives Odysseus the molly plant. Hermes tells Odysseus exactly what to do after -- he tells Odysseus to threaten her and then to make sure that she swears to release his men before he is willing to sleep with her.

One of the main characters in the Trojan War. He was also the protagonist of Homer’s epic, the Iliad. He was the son of Peleus, king of the Myrmidons, and Thetis, a nymph. Both Zeus and Poseidon were in love with his mom.

a creature half bird and half woman who lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness of her song. the Greek hero Odysseus, advised by the sorceress Circe, escaped the danger of their song by stopping the ears of his crew with wax so that they were deaf to the Sirens. Odysseus himself wanted to hear their song but had himself tied to the mast so that he would not be able to steer the ship off its course.
