Radio waves are used for MRI scans. This is where they use different radio wave frequency to look at layers of the body picking up muscles and tissue rather than bone.
Microwaves are used to heat part of the body. It is know used in a new cancer cure called microwave ablation in which microwaves are used to heat and destroy the tumors
Electromagnetic waves are used in many ways to cure and help medical issues but can also cause harm.
X-rays are used to show the structure of human bones inside the body. This can be used to see if there is a fracture which needs to be supported with a cast.
How?
X-Ray scans up the chances of cancer but only by a very small amount.
X-rays are focused on the direct place where the fracture could be. These then reflect off the bone and create the image.
Gamma Rays
Gamma rays, X-rays and Ultraviolet all have medical uses which are effective and useful but can all have side effects
Gamma rays are used to cure some types of cancer using a procedure called Gamma Knife Surgery in which concentrated beams of gamma radiation are fired at cancerous cells in the growths which kills them. They are also used for imaging in PET scans.
UV waves are used to treat transitory new-born jaundice. This is where the infant's head and neck are yellow.
They use UV radiation to turn the pigment of skin to a natural colour.
Although it is used to cure cancer in some circumstances it can be a cause of cancer because the energy carried by the cell can cause it to become cancerous
Infrared and visible light waves are used for surgical lasers.
These surgical lasers are used for laser eye surgery.
Infrared surgical lasers are used to see inside the patient and cut exactly where they want to for precision or intense bleeding
Too much exposure can cause skin burns
