Background
Chariot Racing
Roman sports were heavily male chauvinistic, boasting great strength and athleticism, while being brutally violent. These Romans sports were
hosted by the rich in giant stadiums that proved to
be epitome of Roman wealth and power. Sporting events were free to public as a symbol of emperor’s power and authority.
Chariot racing is similar to NASCAR racing in that they both have drivers and they both require laps around the track. The drivers were usally slaves and sometimes there were professinal drivers.
THE ATHLETES
The athletes that participated were criminals that have lost theirs citizens privileges , slaves, and prisoners of war. However, some free men choose to be apart of these dangerous events. And the free men would make an oath to endure any threats and violence.
boxing
The boxing gloves in this sport covered the palm of the hand and exposed the fingers. There was no set time for each match so the athletes/fighters were allowed to pause or recover. The fighters were not allowed to use their feet or legs to make the opponent fall. If matches lasted too long, referees stopped the match, and the fighters stood still while recieving blows without defending until one of them declared defeat/gave up.
