The Annunciation, Annunciazione, was painted by Leonardo da Vinci, with the help of Andrea del Verrocchio circa 1472-1475.
The Annunciation was originally painted by many artists. It is said that it may have been da Vinci's second, or even first, painting.
He painted the Annunciation with tempera paint on wood. Neccessarily, there were no new techniques used in this painting.
Gabriel is holding Madonna lillies. These symbolized Mary's virginity & the city of Florence. The angel's wings were originally painted by da Vinci from an actual bird's wings in flight. They were later extended by another artist.
The use of colors in the Annunciation contrasted well against each other, & they did not clash. The hazy sky with mountains & trees suggested it was "typical da Vinci".
