From doing this research I have found that Drama films are so vague, so the sub-genre decides what the target audience. For example romantic dramas will target young females and war dramas are targeted towards men, especially older.
Short films are the same as the sub-genre has to decide what the target audience is. So for instance my idea would be targeted towards young people between 15-28.
Drama films try to focus on human struggles so they really attempt to appeal to the emotions of the female audience. Drama is a genre that relies heavily on emotional and relational development of
realistic.
A lot of the time drama films are made to appeal directly to the female audience.
However, drama films that are targeted at a male audience are known as a "guy cry".
Drama films can be very broad so the sub-genres have to decide the target.
Most Drama films have the age ratings of 12-15. This is because of things such as violence, the depressing scenes or even the romance.
All the top 6 drama films are all rated 12.
As you can see from this picture, these 4 short films are the most popular. They all don't have specific age ratings but they all show types of drama that would normally rate the film 12-15, apart from the Wallace and Gromit film. Short films are not as popular and are not commonly shown in cinemas, so don't need to have a specific age rating for people to view.
