WHAT IS TERRORISM?

THANK YOU

Terrorism has been defined as the act of using fear or violence to achieve political, national, or religious goals. It can be classified as invisible warfare because the victim most often does not have any warning of an attack. Today terrorist attacks have a huge effect on society. This type of assault can almost immediately start wars between two countries and completely disrupt the political and economic systems. Society can be easily be put in constant fear of attacks such as these. Many governments have acted quickly to put a stop to these events. For example the US immediately began a war against the nations who harbored terrorists. Governments such as England have also taken measures to tighten security. The United Nations has also responded by adopting resolutions that require all countries to cooperate in the War on Terrorism.

HOPE

And the Fight Against Terrorism

7/7 LONDON BOMBINGS

QUILT SQUARES OF HOPE

In the aftermath of the attack on September 11, 2011, in New York City, the world was shocked and grieving. This event was one of the most devastating and destructive acts of terrorism humanity had ever seen. Schoolchildren in Virginia were asked to create "Squares of Hope" to memorialize this incident and help the grieving families. The following quilt square represents the terrorist attacks on July 7, 2005, in London.

On July 7, 2005, four suicide bombers killed themselves and 52 others on the London Underground and a bus. The rush hour was just coming to a close for the morning when the first three explosions came. One hour later the fourth and last took 13 lives on a bus. The quilt square displays the 4 locations of the explosions around the center. The underground symbol in the middle of the square draws the viewers attention and reminds them of the initial attacks which are generally called "London Underground Bombings" The date and number of people killed are also shown in small circles near the center. The word citizens is also displayed to remind everyone of the fact that this attack was not aimed at powerful figures, but at ordinary, citizens and civilians.
