Motor Hysteria
Motor hysteria is a form involves physical symptoms which spread rapidly in a community of intolerable social situations such as strict schools and a religious community. Motor hysteria can endure for weeks or months until the stress is neutralized, allowing people to return back to normal.
Example:
The Dancing plague of 1518 was a case of dancing mania that occurred in Strasbourg, Alsace in July 1518. Around 400 people took dancing for days without rest, and over the period of about one month, some of the dancers died of heart attack, stroke, or exhaustion.
Many factors contribute to the spread of collective delusions and hysterical illness: the mass media, rumors, anxiety, cultural beliefs and stereotypes, social and political context. This circumstances reflect a rapidly spreading belief which contributes to mass hysteria.

Anti-Gay Bullying
What is a Witch Hunt?
Definition is the pursuit of and/or intent to destroy someone or a group of people whom another group does not understand.
Homophobic bullying of the LGBTQ children make them feel as if they are looked upon as modern day witches.
Religion plays a big role in these witch hunts. "Hell Houses" are a form of both anti-gay bullying and witch-hunting. Founded in the 1970s by fundamentalist pastor, the Reverend Jerry Falwell, "Hell Houses" are religious alternatives to traditional haunted houses.
The tours of the house are given by evangelical churches across the country made to scare and bully people and prevent sin. One of those sins is homosexuality.
"Instead of spooking youth with ghosts and monsters, Hell House tour guides direct them through rooms where violent scenes of damnation for a variety of "sins" are performed, including scenes where a teenage lesbian is brought to hell after committing suicide and a gay man dying of AIDS is taunted by a demon who screams that the man will be separated from God forever in hell," the NGLTF stated.
Modern Day Witch Hunts
In Papua New Guinea, men are being accused of practicing witchcraft. Similar to the incident in Salem with the Witch Trials.
In February 2013, a mother was tortured and burned alive in public. The government reacted by introducing legislation to punish the perpetrators of such crimes.
Violence against the men in Telefomin does seem to stem from the beliefs of witches. It is believed that the cause of these assaults are because of a group of young school men who dropped out of school. The locals refer to them as "the Boys."
"The first report of such attacks near Telefomin appeared in 2009 in the local paper The National, which described how a group of men was "tortured with weapons — including iron rods — before being hacked to death." (Blaszczak)

Modern Day Witch Hunts
Example: Persecution of Muslims, as if every one of them is a terrorist that want to kill the Great Satan (USA). The witch hunt takes many forms, but one that comes to mind is the frenzy stirred up about the so called "ground zero" mosque (located a couple of blocks away from actual ground zero)
The so - called war on terror, a thinly veiled slanderous attempt at religious persecution. Something they're not doing to irish catholics and the IRA bombers; supposedly, all muslims are terrorists or hate the USA, but all irish aren't radical bombers and all priests aren't pedophile sodomists.
Education explains that ignorance breeds fear;!so much for the war on terror. People would know more about Islam, about their culture (Muslims). All of these factors create a Modern Witch Hunt.
The Indian Alien Attacks
in 2002, Uttar Pradesh "muhnochwa,” or “face scratcher,” was a legend in North India. People feared Muhnochwa as he left burns and scratches in the faces of its victims. Anarchy started and riots against this monster. The fear was so great the government organized a investigation. Muhnochwa was only a Mass Hysteria.
This disorder usually happens in stress full occasions, it's beginning in the Salem Which Trials of 1692. Another case of a more recent Mass Hysteria was a TV show in Portugal named "Strawberry Wild Sugar" in 2006. The TV show provoked 300 students dizziness and difficulty breathing. It later became known as the Strawberry Wild Sugar Virus.
Mass Hysteria is a psychology and sociology behavior. Mass Hysteria makes you act in strange behavior which are later contagious. It's a psychologically manifested illness that starts with one person falling into a delusion and spreading rumors that later become an illness. Usually it occurs based on fear or excessive thinking. Mass hysteria is rare but occurs in several cases.A case of Mass hysteria on January 2012, 12 teenagers started to mysteriously have Tourette's symptoms and tics. Neurologist Dr. Laszlo Mechtler confirm that it was mass hysteria or "conversion disorder"
A teacher reported a petrol-like smell in her classroom shortly after arriving to the school in the morning. That morning, she had several students in her classroom develop dizziness, nausea, headaches, and shortness of breath.
Although the school was evacuated and around 100 people reported these types of symptoms, no gas leak was ever found. In fact, investigators searched for days and still could not locate any trace of a gas leak or any other cause for such symptoms. Even those individuals who reported the symptoms showed no abnormal results in blood tests done to try to solve the mystery. In the end, this case is considered an instance of mass hysteria without a known cause.
