Income- Families on a lower income feel the pressure caused by lack of time more, they cannot afford home help or appliances that would save time.

Time scarcity can have a huge impact on us and how we feel. Lack of available time can leave us stressed, frazzled and disorganized.

Time scarcity also has a major impact on choices and decisions that we make. These choices can relate to many things in our everyday life, one example is food.

People may see fast food as an alternative to cooking. Fast food and ready made meals can be seen as the easier and quicker option to someone under time- constraints.

How many times have you gotten fast food as an alternative to cooking because you were in a rush? or because it was late?

What is Time Scarcity?

Time scarcity is something we all experience. Time scarcity is when we have an insufficient amount of time for the tasks we must achieve.

Everyone is guilty of being pressed for time, busy, late. Putting things off because something “more important” comes up.

How many of you have said “I'll go for that run later.” or “I'm going to go to the gym tonight” but just not had the time to do it?

Our presentation will Give you some examples of the scarcity of time in everyday life, how it effects us and our health and how we can prevent it.

Hurry

What Influences Our Choices?

Convenience-How easy it it for us to get? How much time will it consume to make and eat?

Accessibility-Where is it in relation to us? Is it in the freezer?

Affordability-How much will it cost us? Is it a cheap solution to not having enough time to cook?

Availability-How much of it is there around? Can I go to the nearest supermarket of spar and pick it up

Attractiveness-How does it look? Does it appeal to us?

What Would Help Us Make Our Decisions?

Better nutritional information/ education- people should be more educated in terms of nutrition. Food labeling should be better and available in restaurants.

Information: People should be more informed on size control in terms of their portion sizes.

Health promotion- incentives should be given to make people eat better food

A ban on advertisement of certain foods and advertising aimed at a certain age group-.

Big fast food chains are taking advantage of our time scarcity, by offering a seemingly good alternative that will save us time now, but may take years off our life through diseases like obesity

Advertisement should also not be so obviously aimed at a certain age group i.e. McDonalds advertising aimed at young children through toys found in happy meals.

Time Scarcity In Business

Advertising companies target audiences at specific times and places ie beer and football matches, x-factor and dominos

Many shops have special incentives to buy – ‘for limited time only’ ‘meal deals’

Many businesses target your feelings of time scarcity- supermarkets, fast food, retail companies, sports and beauty industries, transport industry
