lark ended up lending Tyray the money for the "birthday gift" for his mom but he ended up going to bones and buying the gun from him. later that night Tyray hid in the bushes by the market where Darrell worked with the gun. When darrell got out Tyray hopped out of the bushes and pulled out the gun but couldn't shoot. Tyray was overwhelmed with emotions and couldn't shoot and aimed it at himself. Darrell thought about what he was about to do and made a split second decision and pushed Tyray out of the bullets way.

Tyray thought the gun symbolized power and strength, but he realized it symbolized terror and death.

Tyray is being teased because Darrell Mercer broke his wrist and Tyray wants revenge. Tyray meets Bones, a guy Tyray's brother used to know before he went to jail. Bones offered Tyray a gun if he would pay $50. He didn't want to wait so he tried getting a gun from another person.

When Tyray got home Mr. Mitchell, his school teacher that was hearing about things at school from other kids, was at his house. Terrified of his dad, Tyray stood behind the protection of his teacher and started to tell his parents about what had been happening.

Darrell is a new kid at Bluford. Tyray saw this as an oppertunity to take advantage of someone. Darrell was a wrestler and defended himself and ended up breaking Tyray's wrist. Lark is a new friend of Tyray and is also caring and likes him. She is a good friend.

Tyray saw Rodney, who had been his friend, and threatened him with the gun. But really he didn't want to hurt anybody he just scared some kids in the neighborhood. Rodney started to be his friend again. News spread about Tyray having a gun and he started to feel strong again.

The theme was Perseverance. Through the whole book Tyray pushed everything aside and kept on fighting and he never gave up. "His mission now had even greater urgency. There was no way things could be right until he got a gun." 41 "If it was the last thing he did, Tyray had to take Darrell down." 86

Tyray got beat up and jumped by kid and his friends that he was going to by the gun from. Tyray was desperate, the next day he told Lark he needed money for his mom's birthday but really he wanted to use it for the gun.

Tyray met some kids behind the gym who said they could get him a gun, but they beat him up and took his money. Evevtually Lark finds out that Tyray's mom's birthday was months ago. Tyray got teased and decided to buy the gun from Bones. Tyray hid the gun from his parents.

Tyray Hobbs is the main bully at his school before he broke his wrist. He is a freshman at Bluford High.
