GEOGRAPHICAL INVESTIGATION

PART (B)

The target audience for this was the adults,

as most young teenagers are well-educated about tropical rainforests and deforestation, whereas adults tend to be less aware as they may have forgotten the ways and methods they could use to help save the environment.

DID YOU KNOW FACTS

We included the negative impacts

caused by deforestation to raise the readers' awareness

of it, in order to have a further insight.

We wanted to raise the awareness of products that came from rainforests as slightly over half of the adults (>50%) are unaware of the products that come from tropical rainforests.

It would be a short-and-sweet method of giving insights and more knowledge of deforestation and common products that come from tropical rainforests.

TARGET AUDIENCE

MAIN GI INQUIRY QUESTION:

How can we change our consumption habits to ensure the sustainability of our rainforests?

SLOGAN

"Stop the chainsaws"

refers to stopping deforestation and it could make a lasting impact on readers

“May the forest be with you”, was adapted from the well-known quote, “May the force be with you”. Readers may link the

quote to our slogan.

Key Survey Findings

The intended effect of the pie chart was to have the adults feel shocked to make them reflect. They thus would reduce their consumption of rainforest products to reduce deforestation.

PIE CHART

  • Level of awareness of rainforest products: 56% of adults are unaware or somewhat unaware
  • Older adults are less aware of products that are associated with tropical rainforests
  • 72% of the adults use rainforest products often and 92% of the adults are aware of the harmful impacts of deforestation
  • More than 90% of the adults think that rainforests should be saved and are willing to reduce consumption of rainforest products

ILLUSTRATION

Our 4 ways:

  • reducing usage of rainforest products
  • reusing rainforest products
  • recycling rainforest products
  • buying recycled products.

This will allow adults to gain knowledge on how they could implement these methods in their daily lives and alter their consumption habits to reduce usage of rainforest products.
