Solutions:

According to Kim Painter, birth control should be put on shelf's of drug stores in order to prevent unwanted pregnancy. This is a great solution because you will no longer need birth control prescribed to you.

Our solutions:

  • go the free health clinic and get free birth control
  • talk to your doctor about getting birth control
  • talk to a parent about safe sex and birth control
  • buy condoms

If you cant do any of the above, don't have sex!

Effects:

  • the pill affects sexually active females age 15-44
  • sexually active people who dont want kids
  • religious views (sex is only for marriage and reproduction)

Expert Opinion:

"Birth control pills are so safe and important to women that they should be sold on drugstore shelves, without a doctor's prescription, says a group representing many of the doctors who prescribe them." (Painter, 2012)

Background Information

  • What is it ? Birth control is the practice of preventing unwanted pregnancies, typically by use of contraception.
  • Why is it a problem ?
  • Religious: goes against many peoples religion
  • Economic: not always affordable
  • Personal: people don't ask for it
  • Why should you care ? More than 99% of couples aged 15–44 who have ever had sexual intercourse have used at least one contraceptive method. This means that birth control is highly used.

"In my opinion, the battles over birth control and Planned Parenthood are primarily neither political nor religious. This is an issue of equality for women. This is an issue of women's rights: Planned Parenthood is the most important private provider of reproductive health care for women in the United States."

All sides to the issue

How it started

Pros (for)

  • prevents unwanted pregnancy
  • prevents STDs (condoms)
  • lower abortion rates

Studies show that out of all the reasons to ingage in sexual activities, having a child has been the least frequent reason. Until the 20th century, birth control methods were not as safe and effective as they are today. To prevent pregnancy before safe contraception, females usually relied on methods such as abstinence, fertility awareness, or withdraw. Some contraceptive methods such as drinking lead and mercury resulted in death. Today contraception is still a religious issue and an economic issue.

More than 99% of couples aged 15–44 who have ever had sexual intercourse have used at least one contraceptive method.

Cons (against)

  • goes against religious views
  • could be expensive
  • pills have to be taken everyday
  • the pill doesnt protect against STD's

Contraceptive Pill

my heart stands still

give up control

of such an important role

some can't iron a shirt

but able to prevent birth

Will they beep at allotted time?

in my head alarm bells chime

Is it too much to be asking?

wouldn't it be multi-tasking?

expecting him to do the deed

and stop the spread of seed

I'm sorry lads, this one I don't trust

my own birth control is a must

To prevent unwanted pregnancy, talk to someone about getting some type of birth control. Practice safe sex. If getting birth control goes against your religious views, cost too much, or if you are underage and your parents strongly disagree, go to the free clinic. If all else fails no sex is the best form of birth control.
